Tag-datalogger for freight containers
23/02/2012 Progeco
PROGECO VIGO has belonged to the Galician Technological Logistics Platform since its foundation. This platform is a meeting point for diverse companies in the logistics sector in Galicia and its main aim is to develop RDI projects that would improve the competitiveness of companies in the logistics sector.

PROGECO VIGO has developed several RDI projects along with other companies involved in the platform, in relation to both the automated loading and cleaning of freight containers. At our last meeting, PROGECO VIGO made contact with another company called PRODIMAR. This company told us that one of their technological developments was the use of a tag on trucks in the distribution of frozen goods. This then led PROGECO VIGO to think that it could be adapted for freight containers, and therefore PRODIMAR redesigned their product, by creating a specific tag for freight containers.

The resulting tag-datalogger has the following advantages:

  • It contains a lithium powered battery which will allow it a two year battery life. It is reusable and is capable of being used on several voyages, as well as being able to be transferred from one container to another (it is attached by using a simple magnet) or it can be kept on the same container.
  • If a container is involved in a truck accident, has gone through heavy seas, or has suffered damage at a Terminal, we will be able to discover the amount of force suffered as well as both the time and date of what happened. This will help us delimit responsibilities and would become an essential tool for surveyors.
  • It also records the temperature and could be used as another probe, both for reefer containers and for dry containers (i.e. in the temperature control used while transporting wine).
  • It lets us know if anybody has entered the container, both at the time and date, making it an added security measure along with the existing seal.

Progeco Vigo introduces a worldwide pioneering system
10/05/2010 veintepies.com
Progeco Vigo, in collaboration with Banper Ingeniería, has developed a loading and unloading system for goods transported by sea.

In the fifteen years since the company started out, its main concern has been to offer a service of the highest quality to meet the needs of its clients. In recent years the company has developed a well documented system of procedures which includes the most suitable methods for loading and unloading goods, handling, lashing and top quality dock work. As a result, the Company was awarded a certificate for its quality management system with the standard ISO 9001:2008. Progeco has also collaborated with Banper to develop a specific platform for container freight stations at port.

This platform is a sure fire way to improve the procedure of loading and unloading containers, as it provides the highest levels of quality and safety for the goods, the container and the operatives. It is actually the first platform of this type which is to be installed in any port which makes Progeco Vigo's facilities and therefore Vigo Port, one of the first in the world as it uses this system.

This machine rolls the load into the container and reduces labour costs. Progeco Vigo, in collaboration with the Navarran Company Bandas y Perfiles Ingeniería, has started using an innovative platform for loading and unloading containers and lorries at Vigo Port. It was presented to the companies at the port on the 28 of April.

The new platform allows a container or lorry of 24 tonnes to be loaded in only five minutes, and makes optimum use of the space inside. This considerably reduces the cost of the whole operation, as sources from Progeco Vigo pointed out. Progeco Vigo's main activity is as a container depot for shipping lines and as a neutral container freight station.

Goods may be up to 12 metres in length or organized in europallets. When loading is completed, the lorry or container is positioned and the platform carries out precise movements to raise the load to the level, centering the width and sides the load inside the lorry or container. This is a procedure which normally presents serious difficulty. The user company now only has to concern itself with how to distribute the goods.

According to sources at Progeco Vigo, this platform is the first of its type to be installed in a port and is a clear improvement in loading and unloading procedures as it provides the highest levels of quality and safety for the goods, the container and the workers. They went on to say that one of the most common forms of damage caused was to the floor of the container mainly due to inappropriate loading or unloading procedures. According to the company, the new platform solves this problem and allows a significant saving in costs, both due to the reduction in freight, as standard containers may be used, as well as the reduction in the time used in the procedure and quantity of damage incurred.

Collaboration between Progeco Vigo and Bandas y Perfiles Ingeniería, as well as an investment in innovation with the purchase of the Banper platform, has resulted in a dealership agreement for Galicia, Asturias and the North of Portugal.

Progeco Vigo, in collaboration with the engineering company Banper, has developed a machine for loading and unloading goods in containers for sea transport

In recent years, Progeco Vigo has developed and introduced a documented procedures system, which includes the optimum methods for stuffing (loading), unstuffing (unloading), securing or lashing goods.

The result of this effort is that the company has been granted the certificate for quality management systems under the standard ISO 9001:2008. The ongoing aim for improvement is the company's main concern, and this is why Progeco have collaborated with the engineering company Banper to develop a specific Banper platform for container freight stations at port.

Esa búsqueda de la mejora continua como filosofía de trabajo, ha llevado a Progeco Vigo a colaborar con la empresa Banper Ingienería en el desarrollo de una plataforma banper específica para Terminales de consolidación de contenedores marítimos en puertos.

This platform is a blue chip for the improvement in the loading and unloading procedures of containers as it provides the highest levels of quality and safety for the goods, the container and the workers.

It is the first platform of this type which is to be installed in the port, which makes the facilities at Progeco Vigo and therefore the Port of Vigo the first in the world to use this system.
